NEW DELHI: Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 withdrawn after a joint parliamentary committee suggested 81 changes to it. The Bill was meant to regulate an individual’s data and how it can be used by companies and government officials.

Earlier, The Personal Data Protection Bill had been sent to the panel in the year 2019 after it faced vehement protests from the opposition Congress and Trinamool Congress among others who said the data privacy law violated the fundamental rights of citizens.

The opposition parties that the law gave powers to the government and other companies to access all the personal information and personal data of individuals under opaque conditions citing national security.
