Today, The Supreme Court said that Elections will be held in 365 places in Maharashtra and the notification of elections has already been issued, there will be elections without reservation. The Top Court also heard the issue of OBC reservation in Maharashtra civic elections.
Further, Supreme Court said that fresh notification cannot be issued for those seats. The Supreme Court warned that if the State Election Commission did this, it would be considered Contempt of the Court. Last week, Supreme Court ordered the state government to issue notifications for local body elections within 14 days.
Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis had told that the report presented by the new Maharashtra Government for OBC reservation in the Top Court has been accepted.
Earlier, the Election Commission of the state said that the notification for the election has been issued, but the nomination process for the elections to the Zilla Parishad and Municipal Corporations has not even started. After this, the court said that according to the notification which has been issued, the process should be carried forward, but the elections for which the notification has not been issued should be stopped for the time being.
