GAUHATI: Recently, Gauhati High Court granted anticipatory bail to Professor Jamir Ahmed Choudhary. He was accused of promoting the Islamic system of education and making derogatory remarks against State’s Education Minister as well as the Chief Minister.

He was booked under Sections 166 (Public servant disobeying law), 153(A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, etc.), 153(B) (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration), 120(B) (Criminal conspiracy) and 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) of IPC.

He is also accused of pushing for ‘PIL education’, which is primarily based on Islamic faith and value.

Jamir Ahmed Choudhary has thus been accused of challenging and demeaning the lawful authority of the State and outraging “religious feeling and an attempt to insult other religious faith with a purpose of creating a divisive atmosphere which may create serious law and order situation provoking communal clashes and violence among the general public”
