Gujrat Court rejected the Bail Application of activist Teesta Setalvad and retired Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar

AHMEDABAD: On Saturday, the Ahmedabad Court rejected the bail application of activist Teesta Setalvad and retired Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar. Both were charged with the fabrication of evidence related to the Gujarat riots case.

Teesta Setalvad and R B Sreekumar were arrested by the Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch on 25th June 2022. Earlier, former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt was arrested for allegedly fabricating evidence to frame innocent persons in the 2002 riots cases. This came a day after the Supreme Court in its verdict upheld the clean chit by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Meanwhile, the detailed report of the Orders is not publically available yet, it will come later. In the Supreme Court judgment of 24th June, the Hon’ble Court said that observed that those responsible for keeping “the pot boiling” over the past 16 years “need to be in the dock and proceeded with in accordance with law”.
