The Indian Medical Association of Dwarka has moved to the Hon’ble Supreme Court seeking protection of doctors against the attacks by the patient’s family.

It happened after a doctor hanged himself in Rajasthan due to the harassment faced by him from a patient’s family. The deceased doctor became the victim of the local politicians through the deceased patients and was also booked by the police under section 302 of IPC.

The Medical Association filed a PIL seeking protection of the doctors as well as a CBI inquiry for the doctor’s death. They also argued that the police were also accomplices to the whole incident and supported the patient’s family by framing the doctor under Section 302.

Recently, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of the country requested to issue guidelines for full protection and safety of the doctors, but nothing has been done in that direction as of now.

So, through this PIL, the Medical Association is seeking for-

    • A guideline for the protection of the doctors and as well as their safety.
    • A mechanism to compensate the family of the deceased doctors who lost their lives while serving the country.
    • Directions for comprehensive guidelines for the establishment of digitally equipped medico-legal cells in all the police stations to handle such cases.
