KANPUR: A Kanpur court rejected the bail application of perfume trader Piyush Kumar Jain, who has been charged under CGST by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). The court was hearing the case of 23 kg of gold recovered from the compound of Piyush Jain’s house in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj.
Piyush’s lawyers admitted in writing that 12 kg of the recovered gold was of foreign marks. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s (DRI) lawyer Ambareesh Tandon said that earlier Piyush had admitted during interrogation in the jail that he used to buy gold of foreign marks from a person for cash money from a person named Kailash.
The DRI is investigating the case of 23 kg of gold found at Piyush Jain house. The hearing on Piyush’s bail application, in this case, is going on in the district judge’s court.
Public prosecutor Ambareesh Tandon said that the reply was filed on behalf of the defense on Wednesday.
The accused party has not been able to show any documents regarding the recovered gold. The entire gold will be confiscated under the Customs Act. The defense lawyer pleaded custody of the applicant was not required as DRI has not questioned him even once after filing the complaint.
