Madras High Court directed Tamil Naidu Government to Appoint Psychiatric in Schools

CHENNAI: On Friday, the Madras High Court directed the state government to appoint psychiatric counselors in each government school attached to hostels in the state. The government should ensure at least one such counselor is appointed in each district.

The Bench headed by Justice N Sathish Kumar said when the father of a victim came before the Court who allegedly died by suicide at her school premises in Chinna Salem in Kallakurichi district on July 13, came up for further hearing today.

Further, the Madras High Court also directed the media outlets and social media to desist from exaggerating such incidents and fomenting consequential violence, which may ultimately result in encouraging such suicides.

The court said that the media should understand its responsibility towards society.

Earlier, Hassan Mohammad, the State Public Prosecutor gives a sealed cover investigation report by the CB-CID, to the judge. He told the judge that the probe in the case was being carried in the right direction.

The other students of a school are currently attending Online Classes and Steps are underway to conduct classes for the students of Classes 9 to 12 at nearby schools. The records and papers relating to the second autopsy will be forwarded to the doctors at JIPMER in Puducherry this evening, Mr. Jinnah added. The matter stands adjourned till August 29.
