Modernisation of State Police Forces (MPF) Scheme
Under the MPF scheme, arrangement has been made for law and order, internal security, adoption of modern technology by police, helping states and union territories for narcotics control. It additionally expects to “fortify the criminal justice framework by fostering a strong legal set-up in India”. Central government will give Rs 4,846 crore to modernize state police forces.
Salient features:
1.To develop high-quality, operationally independent forensic sciences facilities to aid scientific and timely investigation by modernizing the resources.
2.Centre has approved Rs 2,080.50 crore under the central scheme to modernize forensics capacities.
3.Rs 18,839 crore has been distributed for security related use in uprising impacted north-eastern states, union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and regions impacted by left wing extremism (LWE).
4.Violent occurrences in LWE impacted regions have diminished radically with the execution of ‘National Policy and Action Plan’ to battle Maoist rebellion. To continue this achievement, six LWE related plans have been approved, with Central cost of Rs. 8,689 crores. These schemes incorporate Special Central Assistance (SCA) to Most LWE Affected Districts and Districts of Concern to merge the additions.
5.Rs 350 crores have been assigned to raise India Reserve Battalions as well as Specialized India Reserve Battalions.

Combination of Police Stations
Under this scheme, Police Stations are being incorporated to set up a National information base of crime and criminals’ records.
