Assam: Today SC issued a notice in the writ petition to stop the harassment of the people who belong to the religious and linguistic minority community of Assam.
The Bench was held by Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Surya Kant orders for listing the matter after the disposal of the reference made in Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha and Others v. Union of India and Ors. 2015 3 SCC deals with the Citizenship Act, 1955 Section 6A. which provides the statutory basis for the Assam- NRC.
During the Bench, the court held that ‘In view of the reference which has been made in 2015 3 SCC 1 Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha and Ors v. Union of India and Ors. , list after the reference is disposed of. WP be listed after Dispose of Plea.’
Asom Sankhyalaghu Sangram Parishad has filed the petition.
During this hearing Advocate Sanjay Hedge from the Petitioner side that the state government of the Assam – NRC has filed an applicatio. The Petitioner has also sought of prohibiting the authority to exclude any person from the list of the NRC of Asaam dated on August 31, 2019.
Bench said that-Â ”well issue a notice and well list the matter after the constituent bench”.
