Today, A Special Court for the exclusive trial of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances(NDPS) Act, has sentenced 10 years of imprisonment to three drug peddlers, including a woman for smuggling ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu in the year 2017.
Narcotics Control Bureau(NCB), informed that a trio was smuggling ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Madurai via Maduravoyal, the sleuths of NCB stopped a car and examined it. The team member found a box containing 150 kg of ganja.
NCB arrested 3 Accused namely K. Packiyam, 60, M. Thiru Murugan, 30, and S. Bala Murugan, 27, of Madurai in July 2017. They were tried for offenses under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The Bench headed by justice Juliet Pushpa convicted them for offenses and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment of 10 years besides imposing a fine of ₹1 lakh on each.
